❓ FAQ
Every 15,000-22,500 miles (24,000-36,000 km). Shorten to 15,000 miles for heavy towing, extended idling, dusty conditions or biodiesel blends.
Yes. L5P engines run the CP4.2 pump, which is highly sensitive to contamination. The 5-micron absolute media and 98% water separation remove the particles and emulsified water that damage pump internals.
All 2017-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD / 3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD / 3500HD trucks with the 6.6L Duramax L5P engine and a cartridge-style filter housing.
It is a direct-fit replacement built to meet or exceed the OEM specification: 5 micron absolute versus the OEM nominal 7-10 micron rating, with two Viton O-rings instead of one nitrile seal.
Prime the new element with clean diesel before fitting, then cycle the ignition to ON without cranking 3-5 times to charge the system. The L5P fuel system is self-priming.
5-micron protection for the L5P CP4.2 pump
The TP1015 is the cartridge-style fuel filter element used on 2017-2023 GM 6.6L Duramax L5P engines (Silverado / Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD). The L5P runs a CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump that is intolerant of contamination: fine particulate and emulsified water are the two failure modes that end in a costly pump replacement. This element filters to 5 micron absolute with a hydrophobic barrier layer that strips 98% of water from the fuel stream.
Construction
- Media: multi-layer synthetic blend with hydrophobic barrier layer
- Filtration rating: 5 micron absolute, capturing 99.9% of particles 5 micron and larger
- Water separation: 98% removal efficiency
- Build: spiral-wound pleated media with epoxy-sealed end caps for consistent flow under high fuel demand
- Seals: 2 x Viton fluoroelastomer O-rings rated to 400F, compatible with ULSD, B20 biodiesel and common diesel additives

Service interval
Replace every 15,000-22,500 miles (24,000-36,000 km). Shorten to 15,000 miles when towing heavy loads, idling extensively or running biodiesel blends.
Installation notes
- Prime the new element with clean diesel before fitting. A dry element means a dry pump on first start.
- Lubricate both O-rings with clean diesel or silicone grease. Dry O-rings pinch, tear or roll and then leak air.
- Torque the housing cap to 18 ft-lb (25 N.m).
- Cycle the ignition to ON without cranking 3-5 times to charge the system. The L5P fuel system is self-priming.
- Start the engine and check the housing for dampness. A weeping cap seal means the O-ring is not seated.
What is in the box
1 x TP1015 filter element, 2 x Viton O-rings, 1 x installation card. The housing cap is not included: this is the replacement element only.
